Sassy Scrappers & ARTastic challenges

The first layout is something different from me. I have scrapped one of my wedding day photos. I haven't done that since I started scrapbooking - that is, 8 years ago.

I am really happy with the end result and I think it has to do partly with the colours of this month's Sassy Scrappers mood board...

September Moodboard Challenge

Now, I'm not ready for summer just yet. Melbourne weather is terribly temperamental and even though we've had lovely spring days, the cold days are still around at the moment.

I took inspiration from the first photo - of the bouquet of flowers with the wood panels in the background. And as I've already mentioned, the colours are just beautiful.

I was particularly happy when I finally found a use for the Amy Tangerine black script phrase. I am in love with that script! And I added a small stamped phrase next to it that came from Blue Bazaar. Many of their wood-mounted stamps are absolutely divine.

I added pops of yellow across the page. I also added a bit of a messy gesso border around the photos since I decided not to mat them.

The floral strip is washi tape care of D-Lish Scraps.

And because I'm a HUGE fan of Lizzy Hill - and when she says 'go and try out this fabulous challenge' - I listen!!! I participated in ARTastic challenge this month. I really love the premise of this challenge blog. This time the criteria was twine. Now, I use lots of twine but usually on cards, not pages so this was going to be fun.

And I reminded myself why I prefer machine stitching to hand stitching....I printed out the title, which is our favourite Italian restaurant, and I pierced holes as guidelines for the hand stitching. I actually used white twine with red sewing thread together. Not sure if that was a good idea but I'm happy with the result.

I loved the green patterned paper on this layout. It reminds me of checkered tablecloths in restaurants! And I thought pops of red across the page worked well too. I had fun doing this page even though the photo is not the best quality. That's never stopped me :)

Spring is in the air!

Loving the (Melbourne} weather at the moment - but I will not be lured into a false sense of security. If I know Melbourne weather, there will be a cold front with a vengeance coming through soon enough!

I joined in the challenge over at Show Us Your Stuff this month. The spring colours of the mood board were delightful.

I was particularly inspired by the very first photograph - it said 'watercolour background'. My handmade item included a gorgeous flair badge from D-Lish Scraps.

Starting with cream cardstock, I used my finger to create circles randomly with gesso. I knew that the circles would then act as a water-resist when I applied watercolour paint.

It's a simple layout but I was proud to create a mixed media background that didn't look I vomited colour all over it (because frankly, sometimes it really does look like that). I was happy that I achieved what I set out to do with this page :)

Marshmallow goodness

It's a been a bit of a slow month for me with challenges. Lots of life matters that take priority however I've managed to tidy up my craft space (again) in that time.

I seem to be overwhelmed by choices at the moment so I filled a pizza box with papers, stickers and other layering options. I will limit myself to that pizza box for a little while in the hope that I get into some kind of creative groove.

I've joined in over at White With 1 and the colour this month is Marshmallow. Yummy!

It really does help to have such a photogenic little girl :)
A little gesso to define the space around the photo and away I went.

I didn't have the right colour thickers so I coloured white thichers with a black marker. Loving the speech bubble from D-Lish Scraps

The cutest mouse

I've joined in over at Once Upon A Sketch this month following a beautiful challenge. I find OUAS very challenging but lots of fun to do.

At a recent expo I picked up a few supplies, one being Gelatos! I've never used them before so I dipped in and let loose :)

This month's challenge was set by the amazing Nadia....

And this is what I came up with...

I used a Tim Holtz stencil that I also picked up at the paper expo and lots and lots of flowers from D-Lish Scraps. In amongst the flowers you'll find a ScrapMatts 'chippy' that I painted to coordinate. I always have trouble with coloured wire but I was happy to have finally included it in one of my layouts.

One of my favourite ways to journal is to print on cardstock and cut up into strips. I loved the fact that I incorporated Heidi Swapp script into my title.

This layout is certainly something outside of my confort zone but I'm happy with how it turned out. And nothing is complete without sequins, right? :)
